The Server Room is where you handle outages and equipment faults. Open it from Tools, under Infrastructure.
It has four tabs: Overview, Topology, Devices and Servers.
Overview
The landing tab, with four summary tiles: ISP, Network Load, Devices and Servers. The Network Load tile is the one that reads All clear or Needs attention, while the ISP tile shows whether the provider is up or Down.
When the ISP check has flagged an upstream problem, this tab is also where the outcome and the advice appear.
Work out whose problem it is
Before rebooting anything, run check isp status. It answers one of the questions that decides the whole ticket: is this us or the provider?
If the ISP is down, you get an ETA:. The fix is not technical. Tell people, with the ETA, and stop looking for a device to reboot. On the current outage tickets, posting that announcement in the company group chat is how the ticket resolves.
If the ISP is fine, the badge next to the button reads ISP OK, and the Overview tab carries one of two follow-ups. They lead to different actions:
- ISP is fine — no upstream outage. This is a local equipment fault: reboot the affected device in the Devices tab.
- ISP is fine — no upstream outage. This is an intermittent blip that self-heals; just confirm with each user over Company Chat once it’s back.
If there is no outage at all, the badge reads No current outages.
The second one is the trap. There is nothing to reboot. The ticket closes by confirming with the affected users in Company Chat, and hunting for a device to power-cycle will not resolve it.
Devices
Lists every piece of network equipment across six columns: Device, IP Address, Location, Uptime, Status and Action.
The Action menu adapts to the device. A device that is offline offers power on; anything else offers reboot and shut down. A device already rebooting cannot be actioned until it settles. The ISP row has no action menu at all, only check isp status.
Statuses you will see: online, offline, rebooting, error and degraded.
Locations include Server Room A, Server Room B, Lobby, Cafeteria and External Provider.
Servers
Lists the servers with Server, Role, Location, CPU, Memory, Status and an Action. The roles are Domain Controller, File Server, Mail Server and Print Server.
Matching the role to the symptom is most of the diagnosis. Nobody can print and the Print Server is down is one ticket. Nobody can sign in and the Domain Controller is down is a very different one.
Topology
A map of how it all connects: the internet, the edge router, the firewall, the switches, the server VLAN and the wireless VLAN. Useful for working out how far an outage reaches, for example whether one floor’s switch explains the reports you are getting.
Chat alone will not fix an equipment fault
If a ticket needs a device rebooting, talking to the user cannot resolve it. The app is explicit: Chat alone cannot resolve this issue. You must go to the Server Room first to fix the equipment. Fix the equipment, then confirm with the user.
